[sdiy] Resisting UberDIY (soldering danger)

And the stupid thing with 240V soldering irons is they come with a
a wire that is so stiff, the iron may jump out of it's holder,
or slip out of my hand while I'm microjuggling with a part on the board.
It happens: they slip away and I manage to grab it by the tip before
they fall on the ground*.
When I do not look, they crawl away and land either on my trowsers
or on my carpet. I have a different concept of black holes here.
If I smell something burning, my first thought is: where did that
iron go this time?
And then I didn't even start on handling the devices. Grrr!
It is possible to get it right:
'My' G4 mac came with a extreemly souple power cable.
As if I'd have to move it around a lot.
Couldn't resist testing it for heat. Funny enough:
It didn't melt right away!
And irons for clothes do come with a fire proof coating
around the wire.
So who the hack is designing these easy-melting-stiff-wired-irons
anyway? I guess it's not designed by uberdiyers, but by
geeks who have access to very handy soldering stations.
With a nice, souple, fireproof wires.
They won't use their own crap.
