[sdiy] OT: hazards to semiconductors from mail irradiation and x-raying?

This isn't a strictly synth related question, but I figure there must
be somebody here who can answer this one given the broad EE background
of various people here, and synths use IC's too,
right?:

I have somebody who wants to ship me a card for a late-80's vintage
minicomputer(VAX). They raised the possibility of damage to the card
in shipping because all international mail coming into the US is being
x-rayed apparently (spot-checks, I assume). I've been told by one
person so far that this is a non-issue, and that the only thing he
could think of was an old issue of EPROMS supposedly being erased by
x-rays. I don't think there's anything to it either,
but I just wanted to run this by some more people before I go
ahead and have it shipped without any additional precautions, since
the part in question is worth a considerable sum of money.
