Actually, it's totally modular, where a "module" can be as small as an IC, or even
a resistor!
Years ago, in the days of "hobby computers", when some of us put kits together to
get a whopping one megahertz of raw 8 bit power (I still have mine!), there was an
article in Popular Electronics in which there was a picture of a computer someone
had built from various pieces of vector board and whatever else, connected
together with what appeared to be miles of wire. The builder also owned a cat
who, for a reason I now forget, managed to pull about half of it (it covered a
table that looked like about 5'x3') down to the floor in a waterfall like cascade.
There was a photo which I wish I had. Amazingly, the computer was still
functional. The owner admitted that he had no intention of attempting to move it
back to it's original placement since it was working as is.
Talk about *ugly*... One day, I'll give SDIY a peek behind my first FatMan.
