[sdiy] SN76477, 76488 -- data sheets, interchangable?

Does anybody have data sheets for these ICs?  I tried the TI site, no luck.

Also, does anybody know if these chips are interchangeable?  there are a lot
of references to the 76477, which was used in Blacet's Dark Star Chaos...
only a couple i could find on the 76488, but one (in german) looked like it
was suggesting the 88 was an upgraded version of the 77...
