  I've scrounged several NE/SA571s in both DIP and SOIC form
from old mobile phones (bag/car style with separate handsets),
which were pretty much the original application. These phones
also yield a ton of discrete RF hardware: 900MHz power amp modules,
PLLs, mixers, filters, SMB connectors and so on. The last phone I
took apart had a voice-activated speakerphone-on-a-chip (MC34018P)
with all support hardware on a self-contained pcb. Haven't figured
out a synth application yet.
