I dated a blonde in college.  She was making good grades at a tough
engineering school, so I KNOW she was much smarter than the things that
she said and did.  She was the prototypical dumb blonde at all times,
except when doing schoolwork.  It drove me bananas.  I asked her why she
did it, and she said she "just couldn't help it".  I couldn't take it, so
I dumped her for a brunette. ;)

I think a lot of blonde women in the US feel a societal expectation to act
a certain way, regardless of their intelligence or lack thereof.  Hence we
have blonde jokes.
