I use push in terminals (Vector T42-1 exactly) where I use a terminals for each pin
on the part. To me, this just makes everything look cleaner...but I have also seen
people who just stick the leads through the holes, bend the wire around and solder the
connections...each to his own.
The Ceramic capacitor will "work" in place of the mylar cap. It will let you know,
at the very least if the circuit functions. The differences in the dialectric prodoces
generally only subtle differences in most cases. I suspect in your case, you have
nothing to worry about. In some (rare) cases, it will make a big difference. A good
example is the timing capacitor in a VCO should be polystryrene. But now I might be
getting a bit off topic. There are a couple of good web pages that explain the
differences in caps, but I don't remember what they are off hand.
