Well, its like this: I wanted a VCLFO, I am
unemployed, and the MAX038s were free and already in
my stash. You're right, they are very expensive.
Alternates include 8038 and XR2206. Or just make one
out of a CA3080. Check the CA3080 datasheet for
details.

By the by, the reason why I wanted a dual VCLFO is to
play with doing chaotic patches. If one cross-couples
two VCOs one can get chaos.

Of course, that pretty much describes my synth...  ;-)
