Yes I agree  this  diy optical organ thingy  does sound a lot like oramics!
Actually Daphne Oram died  very recently.
I recommend reading her book 'An Individual note of music, sound and
electronics'
(1972). Probably way out of print, but you can find it sometimes in local
libraries etc.
Its a real  trip...! She must have been pretty eccentric (even by English
standards!)

For those of you who dont know, Daphne Oram worked for many  years at the
BBC and
was one of the founder members of the Radiophonic Workshop.
