Depending on where you are based, you may want to look at these sites 
for alternative Xilinx DevKits with good price/performance ratio:

Various distributors like Avnet and Insight Memec peddle packages based 
on their products.

One note: if you haven't used (V)HDL before, you may want to try the 
Xilinx WebPack software before you buy the board, as you will have to 
do without schematic entry.
