That's a pretty gross simplification.  Violin players distinguish up to 25 
ways to articulate a note with the bow, for example.  The left hand is also 
used for several types of portamento, as well as hammered and plucked 
attacks.  What you call "expression" involves bow position, angle, pressure 
and velocity.  Etc.
