Yes, I thought of that shortly after I made my post about the hinged
keyboard with the tubular pressure sensor underneath. Once the keyboard is
hinged, all sorts of sensing methods could be used, including sensors based
upon capacitive or inductive coupling. 

Heck, if we placed a heating element (or elements)  near the front edge of
the hinged keyboard assembly, we could even use thermal sensing! Not that I
would advise this, mind you. Then again, perhaps some inventive soul could
use these same heating elements to ovenize their VCO's.  :)
