moreover, the battery looks (visually) completely as new,
no leakage has been seen on it. The dirt was not very close to the battery but about 1.5cm
far from it ...

What color was this "dirt"? If it was green, yeah.

If this is a NiCd battery it's probably at the end of its life (assuming
this keyboard is as old as I suspect it is). You should replace it. No
sense taking chances because once a NiCd goes it can ruin the PC board in a
relatively short period of time.

It would be safer to put in an alkaline or lithium battery, which requires
some circuit modification. This has been discussed numerous times on this
list.
