Strobe tuners and electronic chromatic tuners are fine, if all I want to do
was to tune a synth. Heck, I can do that well enough with a custom-burned
CD of test tones and tuning by ear. (Chromatic tuners are nice though.)
However, I also want to measure the exact ratios between frequencies. I
would also like to measure higher frequencies such as clock frequencies. I
also want to be able to accurately measure the time interval between two
trigger events. Heck, I might even want to totalize a series of impulses
one day. :)
I would probably use the counter for audio ranges often, but certainly not
always. That's why I thought of getting a used Universal Counter from eBay.
