How did the change in diameter affect the quality of your sound?

When I tried this, I used some semi-rigid plastic pipe larger than 25mm,
but smaller than 50mm. It's been too long ago for me to remember the exact
size. I used this because it happened to be laying around at the time. I
attached a small speaker to one end, and stuck a dynamic mic into the other
end. I only used it for a short echo effect.

I had always assumed that a larger diameter of pipe might yield better
results, but I'm not certain. Does anyone know the answer to that? What is
the optimum pipe internal diameter? Should it match your speaker cone
diameter? I always assumed that the "garden hose" approach was simply to
save space and money, not to tweak the line for optimum quality. Was I wrong?

Next thing you know, we'll be talking about building non-rectangular
underground rooms lined with ceramic tile, in an effort to build an analog
reverb, and whether this method is really any better than the abandoned
grain-silo technique.

Glen
