I wouldn't make a sandwich. Then there might be coupling
over more than one stage.
I have made a quick test of coupling with two inductors
and a 2-channel scope, and the inductors should be arranged
on the pcb in a specific way to make the remaining coupling
*positive*, and still there is some distance needed. Remember,
this is no special, expensive construction; it's cheap standard
ferrite inductors. I was surprised to see them work at all
(and much better than I expected, i.e. not much compensation
necessary), but this project is destined for a 19" 1U rackmount
enclosure.
