[sdiy] Experience with ordering from Overseas (Digikey)?

Hi List,

meanwhile I spent a lot of time searching for 
mechanical/electrical equivalents as the original 
BOM suggests.

I had a sneek view at Digikey (the suggested 
supplier) and found that standard mail is not that 
much expensive (est. delivery time 5-10 days).
So I'm considering ordering overseas because that 
would save me some (or even a lot of) hassle with 
substitutes not fitting the PCB etcpp.

I'm aware that I'd have to pay additional tax and 
duties (in my case appr. +30%) but I think that's 
worthwhile in this case.

What's your POV and/or experience?
Anyone from Europe ordered from them (or mouser 
for instance).
