[sdiy] why not to use rca connectors

The RCA do not short terminals. You can't have normalization but otherwise
they are fine in my opinion. They are very reliable. I'm even planing to use
them.
BNC are a nightmare, personally, I avoid them anywhere. In a modular you
would have one cable failure every two days or so. The conector is fine but
the way the cable is crimped or soldered is very poor. On a modular it would
be a suicide.
1/8'' should be fine if QUALITY male and female would exist, but this is not
the case.
1/4'': there are quality male and females but they are heavy and too big in
my opinion for a modular, and they short terminals when inserted.
XLR are great but obviously too big and bulky.
Another possibility are the so-called mini-XLR form Switchcraft, the real
name is Tiny Q-G you have them in 3, 4 and 5 poles. I think I will use them
for sending power to external modules like joystick, etc. The chasis-female
is a bit bigger in diameter than the RCA.
I'd love to use banana conectors, but I'm worry about not using a shield.
They heve the advantage of, after a huge planetary disaster or the like you
will be able to use your sinth , just plugging any conductive stick on to
it. =:)
But still fear of no-shield.
I insist, I do not see any problem for the RCA. The are shielded, good
quality available, reliable, easy to clean... just that they have not a
switching circuit
