Julian,

The T2k was designed by Tim Orr, published in ETI, sold as kit by
Powertran Cybernetics.

I have a copy of the original magazine articles at home which I am
planning on scanning into PDF format if anyone is interested (or if anyone
has already done this and could email me a copy for my site, please :-)

It does not use any special chips (no CEM, no SSM).  It is built out of
standard parts that can still be bought today (the temp.co resistor might
be problematic though, but this is well-known, and Tim even suggests an
alternative involving winding your own temp.co resistor).  There are
several T2k enthusiasts on this list who can fill in more details.

I believe the wave-shaping is particularly nice in this synth.
