I *have* seen 1/4" phone plugs with an outer shell made of wood. This
probably wouldn't be *too* hard to DIY. It would be a bit tedious, but the
results might look pretty cool.

I suppose if you were *extremely* determined, you might be able to cover
the cable of a patch cord with a thin layer of solid cork. I'm not saying
this would be durable or practical, but it would sure look exotic. Think of
walnut phone plugs contrasted with cork-sheathed wiring...

I know it's over the top, but that's the point, isn't it?
