Electrical signals move at a small fraction of the speed of light in
conductors... the
parasitic capacitance and inductance often cause delays to maybe 60-80% of the

speed of light.

The photonic solutions can operate in three dimensions with respect to signal
routing
so the massive number of layers of copper that would otherwise be needed can
be
removed. Someday it may even be practical....
