[sdiy] and again more asm-1 questions

well, that the beauty of a modular synth, isnt it?

im going to start on an asm-1 soon, and i intend to bring as much as possible out to jack sockets for manual patching.

take your example of the sq out form one vco: there are loads of possiblilities. how about patching it into another vco, so it acts as the modulator signal for an FM effect, or, yes, the vca, or filter, if you want to put that first. or a mixer.

the adsr output. what do you want to controll from the envelope? and it may not be the same every time. maybee the vcos pitch, maybee the filters cutoff, resonance etc.etc. On a more complex system what about the frequency input of a voltage controlled lfo. Again, the options are all there. There is no best way, IMHO, and thats why modulars exist.

If you want an analogue keyboard to simply give out variable voltage for the pitch, and a gate signal, then the electronics are really verry simple. Its the mechanics of the keyboard that are the bit that will need thinking about if your going to build it from scratch. Do something like read the powertran transcendent 2000s manual (which is on www.port23.co.uk somewhere, or CAG, which i dont have the url for at hand.) Dont go copying the mechanics of the t2k, but itll give you at least one approach to the electronics thats easily understandable. Ive no doubt there are better ways though, thats just the one ive looked at.

Hope all this helps,

julian

hi again, i wanted to ask you people how is the asm-1 interconnected. i understand how the modules work, but i read that the modules are not interconnected between each other... but then how can you modify, for example, the square signal coming from the first vco?? i assume that the square would go to the vca or something but it isn't clear in the asm1 manual i downloaded from the new site. or the asdr output...where does it go??... perhaps you can connect the modules in whatever order you prefer, and in that case i ask you, what are your choices?? the square signal has to go somewhere, logically, but where?? also, from the appendix c, i quote "An alternative to a MIDI keyboard would be a digital or analogue keyboard. A design for an analogue keyboard will be provided shortly." if anyone has a design please tell me. i would be very grateful.

pd: how did the vco circuit with the function generator work?? did anyone try it??

  bye!!!
