Hello Obi Wan Kenobi(s)
Thanks for the tips. So far I'm still a non starter. I downloaded
both Audacity and Emagic "LogicFun" (which does indeed look
like fun).
Audacity seems to look pretty good, but I can only reach 16kbit
stereo before the stuttering sets in. I have disabled everything in
sight (all background progs, virus scan, etc...). I tried disabling
Windows virtual memory (to no avail).
I am able to use this machine to read and burn CDs so it seems its
not TOO dog-slow. But no luck with this sound card (yet).
The card shows up in win98 as an Analog Devices 1816 chipset.
The hard drive is big, but has a bios emulation to allow the drive
to be partitioned to larger than the standard Opti-viper bios allows.
I figure not to try and update the bios... might as well throw the
machine
out because it'll get screwed up for sure (even if I knew how to do it).
It has 96M of memory...
Anyone have any more good ideas or tricks... I'd like to keep this dog
going
for a while... its good for everything else I run. I might consider
another soundcard,
but most modern units require WAY more resources than I've got :^P
thanks for not laughing out loud :^P
H^) harry
