[sdiy] Good 8 or 12 bit D/A converter?

Hello!
[sorry if this is a duplicate e-mail... sometimes I have posting issues!]

First of all, I'd like to thank this list again!! Many of my project are
moving along amazingly!

I'm starting to work on a simple sampling project. So far, I've bought an
Atmel AVR microcontroller and I've succeeded in doing a/d with it.

I'll need two more components. First, a decent and easy to use D/A
converter, and later I'll need some sort of flash memory. Does anyone know
of a really easy to use D/A converter that would be suitable for this
project? My first experiment will be to take the audio into the
microcontroller then directly output it to the D/A converter and hear what
it sounds like. Heck, even if it sounds "lo-fi", that's interesting in
itself!!

The microcontroller has 32 I/O pins, so I don't need a D/A converter with a
serial interface. Oh, and it's got to be DIP. I'm not talented enough to
deal with surface mount components! :-)

Thanks!
- Bret
