Well, my opinion is: if you are going to build a clone of any of the
"legendary synthesizers", then you MAY try to build a Matrix 12.
First, make a single voice board. If you are lucky, you will get a
nice-sounding monophonic synthesizer. If you are patient, you could
build 12 boards of it and control them from a "master board" so you
would really get a clone of a Matrix 12.
I think you MAY build a Memorymoog clone as well. I began to do
something like that more than a year ago. I even built one single voice
board (Atmel AT90S1200 as a triple sawtooth DCO + saw-to-pulse
converters + Moog Rogue VCF).
Then I stopped it. After buying a Jupiter 8.
And I would like to say: don't even try to make a clone of:
a) Roland Jupiter 8,
b) Yamaha CS 80.
I don't believe that any clone or any modeling software would be able
to reproduce the magic sound of any of the both.
But maybe I'm wrong. Errare humanum est.
Greetings
Jarek
