This is more acoustics than anything.

Assume you have a sound (i.e. a wavefront) dispersing through air. How do 
you calculate the actual physical displacement of the air molecules 
required to propagate the sound at different powers/frequencies?

Also, is propagation truly linear? So you can model dispersion of a 
collection of frequencies just by adding together the contributions at each 
frequency?

Any pointers?
