[sdiy] cheap and decent reel to reel recommendations?

Suddenly I feel sheepish for posting that I cannibalize old reel2reels for
the springs and motors :)

But they were hopeless, I tell you! Their souls live on in my spring-loaded
pots! And none of them were TEACs. Those I still have running.

Jim is right.  the 40-4s are great.  Along those lines, too are Fostexs.  I
just borrowed one from a friend to do tape transfers.  Fine machine, also
with a variable speed pot on the faceplate.
