I don't know if it's true in *general*, but I think some can be adpated.  Or at least, that was the impression I got by scanning over a few articles.  Apparently there are CCDs made specifically for audio delay lines as well.

Can the CCD from a video camera be used as analog storage, or is that
ridiculous? I don't know enough about those.
