I actually find exponential useful for an LFO as well.  A good 
example...you are using the LFO for a clock source for a sequencer.  You 
use one of the analog outputs of the sequencer to control the LFO 
rate....with exponential control, 1 volt change from the sequencer will 
change the tempo by a factor of 2.
