[sdiy] why +/- 15V

I use a 12V walwart for my i5 Vdc supply. The 12V is RMS, so the actual
P2P is about 17V. Of course, the peak supply to a 15V regulator should
be 3V higher, i.e. 18, but my Power Supply works just fine, and is
really easy to build with a few cheap standard parts.

Subject: [sdiy] why +/- 15V
Hi folks,
Maybe a stupid question, but why are most synth-circuits designed for
+/-
15V.
Just for historical reasons?
For my own stuff I favor +/- 5V. I've build a couple of devices for
friends,
and a affordable powersupply was important for me. It's just so easy to
get
a 12V wallpart.
Nils
