Aha... I fell in a similar situation some (not too many) years ago when tried to
*improve* a 4558 based mixer. I never trusted in datasheets noise specs then
decided to use a solder sucker and my ears to see what happens...
After several tries the "improvement" finished with a socketed 4558 based mixer.
(No matter the age, there is always enough room to feel oneself stupid)
