[sdiy] Simmons sds

anyone built anything like these? i have an sds 8 that makes great 
analog drum sounds, but i have to give it back to the rightfull owner. 
i thought i'd take it apart and find out what's in it/scan the board to 
see if i could build one. anyone have any thoughts, or know of 
documentation on these?
i was speaking to someone on this list about building a DR sieries drum 
machine and using a pc to sequence it. is there a way i could build it 
like an sds and just have trigger ins on it?  i wanted to build one of 
those, but the sequencing part is daunting. if i knew i could just use 
the drum circuits and have trigger pads to play it, i'd be psyched on 
it.
