[sdiy] OT: Scratchy CDs

Gents,
I read yet another article in TapeOP magazine about burning Cds for
pro-audio. According to the article, burning at 1x on critical audio CDs
reduces errors dramatically. ( Sorry, but my brain is toast and I can't
think of any jargon to throw in there.:)) However, at the very least jitter
errors are greatly reduced and apparently there is a lot more "digital
headroom" so the error correction facilities do not have to work as hard.
The same goes for disc-to-disc direct transfer. I have noticed a major
improvement when using cheap CD-R media at 1x. When using excellent media
the sound appeared to be more harmonically rich when burned at 1x. It just
takes forever.

Really great magazine with regard to DIY-recording, analog recording, studio
grade project building.

Eerror correction is part of the Red Book spec for audio CDs. So yes, it is
there on writeable CDs, too. The usual burn errors are not due to a simple
lack of error correction code.
