[sdiy] OT: Scratchy CDs

The inventor of the CD format is my personal engineering hero (sorry Dr. Moog!). Toshi Doi of
Sony spent *8 years* in his office, alone, wring on yellow legal pads until he figured it all
out. Most people I know can't work *8 weeks* on 1 thing without getting bored or tired of it. The
Ken Pohlmann "Principals of Digital Audio" book is a GREAT place to start.

CD players are truly amazing feats of engineering. For example, the disc changes speeds about 6
times a *second* as it spins. Only like 34% of the data on a CD is audio, the rest is error
correction/timing.
