[sdiy] Opamp ICs (slightly OT)

Robotboy,
I am a bassist myself and I have to tell you that one of the most
interesting pickups that I have seen recently is an optical pickup. It is
located in, or near the bridge. It shines a regular LED or Laser across the
string and picks up the variations in light intensity on the other side of
the string with either an LDR or a phototransistor array. That would be
pretty easy to build and it would make use of one or more opamp as preamp,
buffer, and filter. Then the string vibration will not be damped at all.
You may also want to use either Piezo strips or Force Sensing Resistors as
the pickups. They come as a very thin plastic printed circuit and they can
be mounted right on the string saddle. A lot of acoustic bass pickups are
made this way.
Sounds like you are on your way to building a really cool instrument. Keep
it going.

Great source of basic info, but since his question is "what opamp should I
use?" a book full of 4739 circuits is something of a catch-22. The irony is
remarkable.
