Hi RobotBoy
I am going to add a couple of items to my Circuit Odds and Ends page this evening when I get home from work. Such as how to connect an op-amp in different configurations etc. It will be at: http://atlas.csd.net/~rjwsoft/oddsandends.html but as I say it won't be there until later today.
Another idea for the drone bass may be to use conventional guitar pickups but then provide the feedback mechanism necessary to keep the strings vibrating by adding one of those small floor shaker type drivers to the guitar body. The shaker has the frquency response for bass and it will provide just what you need to keep the string(s) vibrating.
I saw some of them on sale at All electronics. http://www.allelectronics.com/ The units are similar to speakers but instead of moving a cone they move a weight to provide vibration. They need to be driven by an amplifier with several watts of power (like a speaker).

Get some schematics, you say? Done, thanks to RJWSoft's schematic publisher!
How does this look, in all? I get the feeling it can't possibly be this simple... though I haven't yet added the opamp, as I can't figure out how to get the blasted thing hooked up in the schematic; it does need a separate battery for itself, doesn't it?
Picture's at www.freewebs.com/autophage/optschem.jpg or www.freewebs.com/optschem.gif (same thing, different format).
