If you don't need a polyphonic output, you might want to look at the CD4532
keyboard encoder chip. Or any keyboard encoder. The metal plates just need
to make a logic signal, which is a lot more forgiving than handling the
actual analog CV. A CD4042 or any D latch can be used to latch the digital
output, and a DAC give a precise keyboard CV.
