Does the TX81Z have the ADSDR envelopes (where you can set
a piano-like decay to occur during the sustain phase)?
That's what my CX5M had.
I was under the impression that most of the 4-op machines
(the 81Z may be an exception since it was early) were
single-chip solutions. At that time Yamaha was offering
4-op FM synth ICs to video game and consumer electronics
manufacturers, and I know of several '80s arcade games
that used them. It was 2 voices per chip or something
like that. I'm pretty sure the 6-op machines like the
DX7 were completely different. (And I think that the
subsequent machines, like the DX7IIFD and the DX5, were
a lot different from the original DX7.)
