You mean to say MCS 4 as the "family name". Later they went for stuff like
iAPX 88/10 (bare 8088 with no extention-chips, so really like a PDP-11 style of
numbering).

As for i4004 versus other things... you're right, that happend later, but I
have seen it in use if my memory serves me right...

Thanks for the link. I should have a 4040 lying around here somewhere... I did
used to have a board with it... maybe time to hack a 4-bitter...
