Given a slight redesign a small micro (PIC/AVR) could quickly and easily be
made to do the job of most discrete digital electronic chips, and perhaps
more, combining two or more chips into one package.
For example, the monowave oscillator was based on a design using a two
latchs and some full adders, but 24bits wide. Instead of needing something
like 16+ chips, I had one 20pin chip that did it all, saved space and money.
