[sdiy] MIDI + Ethernet

All the arguments over MIDI on s-DIY lately got me to thinking.  Has 
MIDI-over-Ethernet ever developed into anything substantial?  I checked 
on mLAN a little, and that appears to be MIDI and audio over a FireWire 
connection.  I'm curious about a MIDI-Ethernet connection as there are 
lots of useful sound cards that have great features but no MIDI 
connection for some reason.

The main platforms I use are Mac OS X and Linux (on Mac/PPC machines).
