i wonder how often people complain about midi latency, and it is really
just the computer or hardware they are using. because unless you are doing
some intense sys-ex, cc work, or a crazy number of channles, it's hard to
flood a midi line. a basic midi interface is not something that is hard to
do right [other than drivers, and most of the time they work fine]. i don't
think my midisport 2x2 has ever crashed or anything like that.
with guitar synths [i have the gr-30 and gr-700, so i've tried both
generations], a lot of people don't understand that the latency is from
their sloppy playing, not the synth or midi. i've heard people complain that
the vg-88 doesn't have midi, but the tracking is sooo much better than the
other guitar synths... come on! the thing is just a big effects processor
there isn't a synth in it! it would be like saying that the line6 variax is
a guitar synth... these are apples and oranges.
once you get comfortable with how you want to set up the guitar, and get
comfortable playing, there shouldn't be many problems. even on the gr-30, it
worked fine after i first set up the bridge and tuned the guitar, all of the
newer synths are almost plug and play other than technique. i'm a sloppy [
www.robot-dreams.com/sd/ !!!] guitar player anyway so a few stray notes dont
get noticed. recording to midi, you can always get rid of the super high
notes that come from glitchy harmonics. live... gotta be careful if you are
playing fancy :P
on low strings where the delay is the most common on normal tunings,
with the gr-700 i notice that some patches you can REALLY notice the delay.
but then some of the other patches you don't really notice at all, although
they are both fast attack bass type patches... between the physics of a
patch and tracking and playing... it can get confusing :P
too much thinking about things i can't really do much about in one night...
