I'm mad as hell, and I'm not going to take it anymore.
This calls for civil disobedience. Our numbers are legion; it is time that
the DIY movement roared!
*We need someone to head the movement. Someone organized. I nominate James
Patchell, who's idea of a 'messy workshop' to me is the epitome of
organization. One can see the floor.
*We need someone who knows the ins and outs of civil disobedience. I
suggest we assign Peter Grenader or Cynthia Webster. They were/are part of
the groovy California scene - sometime they *must* have met someone adept at
demonstration.
*We need numbers. Paul Schreiber - time to punch that button that activates
the secret MOTM alert system that's built into all of your modules.
*We need the entrepreneurial element to start cranking out "Save the CA3080"
T-shirts to finance the movement.
*We need to be heard. All performers on this list - start spreading the
word. Ruud - get on your soapbox! Arrange a benefit concert. It's going
to take some bux to fly everyone from all the continents to the same point
for the demonstration. Suggestion for movement theme song "We are the
DIPs". Hmmm....maybe not.
*We need those on this list adept at dirty tricks and intelligence to dig
up/create as much dirt as possible on the CEO and CFO of Intersil. If it's
good enough material, it may even be enough to force Intersil to buy the old
CEM and SSM dies and go back into production. Harry? No, that may present
a conflict of interest should we want them to to do a run of BBD's, too.
To cap off the campaign, we all need to descend upon the headquarters of
Intersil. We should bring all of our synth's and some of those big-ass
amplifiers I read about occasionally here. First, set up a massive,
wailing, mournful (yet tasteful) drone just beneath the threshold of pain.
Then chain ourselves to the front doors.
Afterwards, in our jail cells, we could have the DIY get-together to end all
get-togethers. Door prize would be bail.
Sadly,
Scott
PS - I heard on NPR that, in Nigeria, people are now afraid to answer their
cell phones. It seems there's an email/SMS message circulating there
stating that if you answer a call from a certain number, you will die.
Apparently, it's been enough to rather hurt the cell operators there (really
inhibits Dr. TI, too, I would imagine). If we could get something like that
going in our respective countries, perhaps the cell phone market would
slump, and DIP's would rule again. Just a thought.....
