"a friend of mine asked me to build a sort of keyboard for some circus show
he is putting on... he needs a sort of sensor that stays in the floor, and
once a ball touch it , it plays a note from Happy Birthday... the sensor
part isnt hard... but the musical part...its a different story... any
suggestions?"

actually, the musical part is also pretty easy as well! if you want to take
the easier/quick way out, just find a standard cheap Happy Birthday pcb kit,
and instead of having it triggered by whatever timer it has in there, use
the sensor for the trigger signals.

or you could look around for little kids toys that play a note of a song [in
this case happy birthday] whenever you hit a key or button, and replace that
with the sensor...

otherwise, you could probably do it pretty easily with a BasicStamp2 and
something to act as a synth/VCO/whatever...
