Actually, they're doing that sort of research e.g. at the University of
Kaiserslautern. They try to build sonic walls which are able to place the
sound wherever they want somewhere in the room by playing this ultrasonic
interference trick.

I imagine hooking something like this to the home cinema system. Gives a
complete new meaning to "surround sound".
