[sdiy] LDO regulators

Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone has some advice on low-dropout voltage
regulators. Is there a line that roughly corresponds with the old
78xx/79xx series? I've looked through my Mouser and Digi-Key catalogs
and I'm surprised at the baffling number and variety of LDO regulators
out there.

The regulator should be available in TO-220 or TO-3 form (or similar
through-hole part) if possible. I need current of up to say 1-1.5 A or
so; of course it would be great to know about any 323/338/350-style
high current regulators as well, especially those that have adjustable
voltage.

Thanks,
-PRH
