[sdiy] Quick voltage regulator question

Im using the Blacet midi sync ic.  It needs 5v.  Ive got an lm7805 5v regulator.
  I haven't used a voltage regulator yet in any of my synthing, so am not  sure if it will handle being fed from 15 volts.  Can I wire it up  as +15 to regulator in to midi sync ic?
