LOL. BBDs are a rather complex and somewhat unforgiving device. At
best, with the best design
and all the tricks applied.... they rival a decent quality cassette
player in quality. At worst they are expensive
and die very young.

The reason they are not more used, these days... is because for almost
all delay and echo applications...
the Digital Delay has replaced them. Hell... it has pretty much
replaced tape as well. And Vinyl...
(flamesuit on :^)

My major complaint with the BBD... is newbies who say "This is my first
DIY project and I'd like
to make an echo unit with maybe 1 second (or more) delay... I'll use a BBD.

Danger, Will Robinson. BAD project for Newbie. Bad project for
experienced designer as well...

I use JH's 'Storm Tide Flanger" as an example of the complexity needed
to make BBDs really work.
Good pre and post filters, companding, etc. I'll wager careful,
thoughtful layout as well (you did do a good
layout job, didn't you Juergen ??? :^)

BBDs might still be viable for very short (flanging) delays. Other than
that they are a waste of time...

unless... UNLESS...

you really ~like~ the sound of SUCK !!! (lo-fi anyone)... in which
case I actually am a BBD endorsee...

I have done DIY with BBD, BTW. It was not very successful. At least I
got my money back from a lo-fi'er.
Might add that today I could probably do it well... but why waste my
time at this point. I can buy a digital
for lawn-mowing money.
