One quick point...

the two opamp voltage followers could probably
be combined into one... both are 9V right ???

Add some small series resistance after the opamp and
then a large capaciotr to ground for decoupling.

The resistor in series with the LED seems improbably
high. Almost a bet that it will not work with the
next vactrol you try.

I'd look at better ways to control the LED...
look at some Buchla examples... The Lowpass filter /
gate is a good example.  The Mutron III envelope
filter is another.
