I've seen fairly thick "droop moulding", that is to say
perspex sheet put over a wooden mould & heated so
it softened & droped over the form.
Back in the days (1950s) someone I know made a small 
fortune making teletype covers this way!
Not sure whether this technique is what you want for the
Wasp case, but certainly you can get some 'space age'
shapes that way (if by 'space age' you mean sputnik).
